| I was born and grew up in Berkshire. I loved drawing, painting and sewing from a young age. I studied at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design and then Loughborough College of Art & Design where I gained a first class honours degree in Art & Design, specializing in woven textiles. I then worked at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Berkshire as resident weaver. I took part in artist in schools projects, was an occasional visiting lecturer at Arts Colleges and sold my work through shops, galleries and craft fairs around the country. I moved to Norfolk twenty years ago and rented a workshop at Alby Crafts in its early days. I met and married a Norfolk man. We now have four children which has kept me pretty busy but I have squeezed in some commissions, painting people's relatives, pets or homes. Since returning to work full time at Alby Crafts I have painted a wide range of subjects in oils, particularly wildlife and Norfolk landscapes. A visit to Kenya has given me material for many more wildlife paintings. Walks with our dogs Lucy and Domino provide a constant source of material for local landscapes and local wildlife. Due to our children participating in many dance shows and festivals, dressmaking skills, learnt from the age of ten, were soon put to great use in providing many costumes over the years and this still continues today. My loom is a 24 shaft dobby loom, hand made for me by George Wood who was 86 years old when he made it! I have been the proud owner of it for 26 years now. I enjoy working in these different fields. Inspiration seems to flow from one area to another never leaving me at a loss for the next thing to do. It's more of a problem finding time to carry out all the ideas I wish to try. In my return to Alby Crafts I am joined by our daughter Charlotte with her sensitive pastel and pencil drawings. Charlotte also has an interest in costume design and textiles and is learning these skills. |
